Environmental Certificate Trading Code of Conduct

What this Code is for

Environmental certificates only work if everyone behaves responsibly.
This Code sets the standards we hold ourselves to — and the standards we expect from anyone trading with us.

It’s not a slogan, a poster, or a box-ticking exercise.
It’s how we run the business.

1. We trade certificates honestly

We never misrepresent:

  • the technology
  • the country of origin
  • the commissioning date
  • the production period
  • the sustainability attributes
  • the registry status
  • the eligibility for a given scheme

If the data says one thing, we say the same thing.
No creative interpretations. No convenient ambiguities.

2. We verify before we trade

Before moving a single certificate we:

  • confirm registry details
  • confirm ownership
  • confirm serial numbers
  • confirm transferability
  • confirm supplier claims
  • confirm any associated sustainability criteria

If it can’t be verified, it doesn’t get traded.

3. We keep the market clean

We do not participate in:

  • double counting
  • double claiming
  • transferring inactive or cancelled certificates
  • buying or selling outside accredited registries
  • off-ledger swaps
  • “grey” markets
  • arrangements that disguise true origin or period

Clean markets depend on clean conduct.

4. We only work with reputable counterparties

Before doing business, we check:

  • corporate identity
  • sanctions exposure
  • registry status
  • financial stability
  • market reputation
  • environmental claims
  • compliance history

If someone can’t pass a basic smell test, they don’t trade through us.

5. We disclose conflicts of interest

If we stand to benefit from a trade in any way beyond the standard margin, we tell you upfront.

Conflicts aren’t inherently bad.
Hiding them is.

6. We communicate with precision

In this market, small details matter.
So we communicate in a way that removes ambiguity:

  • written documentation
  • clear terms
  • precise definitions
  • no verbal “understandings”
  • confirmations that can stand up in an audit

If it’s important, it lives in writing.

7. We settle trades properly

We follow a disciplined process:

  • matched terms
  • matched volumes
  • matched serials
  • proper delivery instructions
  • confirmation issued
  • transfer completed
  • settlement recorded

No rushed shortcuts, no informal transfers, no missing paperwork.

8. We protect confidential information

We handle all counterparty information with care:

  • no unauthorised disclosure
  • no sharing of order flow
  • no using confidential data for competitive advantage
  • no discussing counterparties with third parties

Trust is built in the quiet moments.

9. We comply with all laws and registry rules

Wherever we operate, we follow:

  • national laws
  • registry requirements
  • disclosure obligations
  • sanctions rules
  • anti-money-laundering requirements
  • anti-bribery legislation
  • market integrity principles

The rules apply even when no one is watching.

10. We train our people

Everyone involved in trading, sales, operations or compliance receives training on:

  • certificate schemes
  • fraud risks
  • registry processes
  • sanctions checks
  • AML controls
  • ethical trading
  • dispute handling

Competence prevents mistakes before they happen.

11. We investigate anything suspicious

If we spot:

  • mismatched data
  • abnormal pricing
  • improper incentives
  • inconsistent registry behaviour
  • signs of manipulation
  • unverifiable claims

We pause the trade and investigate.
We would rather lose a trade than compromise our standards.

12. We encourage whistleblowing

Anyone — employee or counterparty — can report concerns:

Email: compliance@energymarketingandtrading.com
Anonymous channel: [link]

Every report is reviewed.
No retaliation. Ever.

13. We aim to raise standards in the market

By being clear, transparent and disciplined, we help:

  • increase trust in certificates
  • improve liquidity
  • reduce fraud
  • reduce administrative noise
  • increase confidence in sustainability claims

A rising tide lifts the whole sector.

Why this Code matters

Environmental certificates are evidence.
They prove something real happened in the physical world.

This Code protects that credibility.
It protects our counterparties.
And it protects the market you rely on.
